On the outside looking in

Phillipians 2:7-8 NIV

rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death-even death on a cross!

Every time I see a commercial on TV about a dog or cat in a rescue shelter it breaks my heart. Those eyes just staring hopelessly at me through the television screen it just wants to make me reach out and bring it home with me, and give it all the love it craves and deserves.

I’ve felt like that before and I am sure that I am not alone. The last one or almost last one to be picked in PE class (kind of dating myself), sitting at the lunch table by yourself. As you get older being passed up for a promotion that you know you deserve. Life is just not fair and it seems there is nothing you can do about it.

You’re locked behind the door of self defeat not able to find any way out. You search and you feel your way around in the darkness of solitude searching for a way to open the door and let you out, but everywhere you search is the same total darkness, the same black walls of nothingness.

You feel hopeless and alone, calling out for anyone to hear your cries of anguish and despair, but the wall is sound proof you can’t hear anyone, but worse no one can hear you.

Suddenly you notice a small crack in the wall you run toward it, you reach for the door, but before you even get to it, the door opens and the brightest of lights overtakes the whole room that used to be black. You stop unsure what is in the light beyond the door. Then suddenly through the light; appears a hand moving towards the door you reach for the hand and it gently pulls you through the door. Suddenly you fell the warmth and love that you have been longing for, you never want to let this feeling get away. You feel protected and that protection will always be there.

The human side of Jesus must have felt like that in the days leading up to his crucifixion all alone in total darkness and despair, so he knows how you feel because he has lived it in the worst way imaginable. The walls were closing in on him as the day grew closer and closer never feeling more alone.

But there is hope, there is light on the other side of despair and all it takes is letting the arms of your loving GOD pull you through.

Oh, by the way we rescued Zoey our puppy from a shelter, and we are giving her the home and the love that she craves and deserves, and she is more than willing to give us all the love she has to give in return.
